O'BLENIS SHUBENACADIE:
The O’Blenis Shubenacadie paddle is named for Nova Scotia’s largest river, the Shubenacadie which is a powerful tidal river connecting Grand Lake (near the city of Halifax, nova Scotia’s capital) with the Bay of Fundy and the highest tides on the planet.
The Shubenacadie is designed for those preferring a straight shaft paddle with a moderately sized blade surface. Suitable for lake tripping and moderate whitewater (depending on the layup), it is a paddle that will take you on countless journeys throughout your favorite lakes and rivers.
Each paddle is hand built, thus no two will ever be identical. Laminated strips, rough blade shape cut out on the bandsaw and then individually shaped with a low angle plane and three different spokeshaves and then hand sanded. Built of western red cedar and other select softwoods and, for an up charge, with hardwood strips in the blade (shown with two strips of Brazilian Purpleheart in the photos), the blades are coated with Epoxy resin and can also have a fiberglass covering on both blade faces for an added fee.
Average weight is a mere 19 to 21 ounces. Each paddle is finished with 5 coats of marine spar varnish. Available in lengths up to 60 inches.
Blade size is 7.75” by 20”
